Since the city council district lines have been redrawn, Marty McClain has picked up 8,000-9,000 new residents in District 1, many of whom have reached out the councilman and asked for his ear, he said.
He decided it is time to have a town hall meeting, his second since being elected District 1’s representative in 2009, so he could touch base with those new constituents and catch up with the others.
“There has been a number of people asking me when I was going to have another one because there’s things they wanted to ask and talk about,” McClain said.
The town hall session is scheduled for Wednesday, June 29, from 5-8 p.m., at the Cape Coral Association of Realtors building in Club Square downtown.
McClain said the meeting won’t be heavily attended by city staff, but acting Transportation Director Persides Zambrano will be on hand to answer questions about resurfacing Cape Coral Parkway.
Originally slated to begin April 27, the project has been pushed back, but McClain said there’s likely still time to get the project wrapped up before winter residents return, although he admitted the city has lost the cushion it once had.
Some work has already begun, McClain added, but the town hall will give residents the chance to ask any questions they might have and get first-hand answers.
“A lot of work has already taken place, a lot of work is being done at night in preparation,” McClain said. “We are behind schedule but we can still complete the project in the time period we already have set up.”
A large portion of McClain’s town hall meeting will be given to a question-and-answer session from the audience.
While he plans on discussing subjects that include the infill assessment, the stalled UEP project and the beach at Four Freedoms park, McClain said a majority of the town hall will be dedicated to residents’ questions.
“It’s really an opportunity for people to reach out and tell me what’s on their minds,” McClain said. “I’m also looking for what people’s thoughts are on the current year and half this current council has been seated.”
Topics will also include what’s happening in the South Cape and Community Redevelop-ment Agency Board Chairman Don Heisler will be on hand to answer questions, according to McClain.
