Two Cape men involved in accident on I-75

By Staff

The condition of a Cape Coral resident involved in a traffic crash that resulted in the death of one man was unknown Friday.
Henoc Carl Pierre, 46, was transported to Naples Community Hospital in serious condition Thursday afternoon following the accident on Interstate 75, according to an accident report from the Florida Highway Patrol.
Hospital officials reported Friday that they could not provide an update on Pierre’s condition because Pierre was not a patient in their system.
Pierre had been a passenger in a 2002 Toyota van being driven by Samuel Phanord, 64, also of Cape Coral. Phanord was killed in Thursday’s crash.
According to the FHP, the Toyota was traveling west on I-75 in the outside lane at about 2:15 p.m. At mile marker 93, the left rear tire of the van experienced tread separation and Phanord lost control of the Toyota.
The van swerved onto the grass median and Phanord reportedly over corrected, the Toyota then traveling across both westbound lanes of I-75. The van’s front left section eventually hit a metal guardwire and a tree.
Phanord was pronounced dead on scene and Pierre sustained incapaciting injuries, according to the FHP. Both were wearing seat belts at the time.
