Foundation’s Early Learning Center holding first summer camp

By Staff

The Foundation’s Early Learning Center, a ministry of Cape Coral First United Methodist Church, began its first summer camp program last Monday following the completion of renovations and new construction for the center.
Two years ago, Cape Coral First United Methodist Church put together a vision plan to compensate the growth of its child’s ministry, which grew from a few youngsters to more than a 100 kids in a few years. The ground-breaking for the building renovations and additions began in November and an open house was held in May once the projects were completed.
Among the renovations included the transformation of the old gymnasium into a new building for the Foundation’s Early Learning Center, which is licensed to hold 110 children from 3 months to 8 years old.
Director Mary Richardson said the church began its summer camp on June 13 with 23 kids between the ages of 4-8 years old.
“Quite a few of them are just camp kids, but that is a good start,” she said.
Each week the camp has a different theme that the teachers follow with various activities. This week everything is geared around ooey-gooey and slimy things, which included making slime on Tuesday.
Other weekly themes include circus week; splish, splash, wet and wild; road trips around the U.S.A.; stars and stripes in honor of Fourth of July; and crazy days.
The summer camp is $100 a week for five days from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m. Lunch and snacks are provided each day.
The summer camp will be held through Aug. 5, with the Foundation’s Early Learning Center beginning its preschool program Aug. 8.
Richardson said the preschool program provides creative curriculum to get kids, 1-4 years old, ready for kindergarten. The full-time preschool is held from 6:30 a.m. until 6 p.m. Part-time programs are also available.
She said there are lots of spaces available for both the summer camp and the preschool program.
