A Cape Coral woman has been accused of child neglect after police found drugs and drug paraphernalia in her home, along with a sleeping child.
Nicole Marie Busbee, 30, of 4419 S.E. 19th Ave., was being held Tuesday at the Lee County Jail on $3,000 bond. Busbee has been charged with one felony count of child neglect without great harm, according to jail booking records.
Cape police responded to a disturbance Friday night at 4419 S.E. 19th Ave.
When officers arrived at the home, Busbee came out of the garage and reportedly stated that her boyfriend had hit her. The boyfriend, Charles E. Chambers, 27, then exited the residence. Both were questioned by police.
Busbee told police that she had caught Chambers using drugs in the back bathroom, according to a police report. She said Chambers then chased her throughout the house, punching her in face and head and pulling her hair.
Chambers told police that they got into a fight about drugs.
He reportedly said he and Busbee both use drugs and they need help.
Chambers also apologized for hurting Busbee.
Police found Busbee’s 4-year-old child sleeping inside the home.
According to the report, police also discovered several needles, a small plastic bag of crack cocaine, a metal spoon with Roxycodone melted down to a liquid form, Oxycodone powder, marijuana seeds, another spoon with blue reside, a used syringe and an unused syringe full of a clear liquid.
Busbee and Chambers were taken into custody.
Chambers was charged with domestic violence battery cause bodily harm.
The Department of Children and Families responded to the scene.
Busbee agreed to submit to a drug screen test for DCF. She reportedly tested positive for methadone, cocaine, anti-depressants and opiates.
DCF removed the child from the home, according to the report.
Busbee has a court date scheduled July 18.
Chambers was denied bond on an unrelated warrant out of Polk County. He also remained at the Lee County Jail on Tuesday. He has a court on June 18.
