Inaugural PAL Charity Basketball Tourney deemed a success

By Staff

On Saturday June 18, the inaugural Police Athletic League/Law Enforcement Charity Basketball Tournament was held at Cape Coral High School. The tournament tipped-off at 10 a.m. and culminated with the championship game tipping-off at 6:30 p.m.
Six teams from the Cape Coral and Fort Myers Police Departments, the Lee County Sheriff’s Office and the Cape Coral Fire Department battled hard all day for charity.
In the end however, it was CCPD “Gray” that hoisted the championship trophy after a 48-42 win over FMPD.
“It feels real good,” said Captain Mike Torregrossa, coach, in a prepared statement. “We’ve been preparing for five weeks for this tournament and everyone knew how hard we have been working and made us the favorites to win the whole thing, which put a lot of added pressure on our guys to live up to expectations. Our guys, not just the ‘Gray’ team, but the ‘Blue’ team as well have worked their butts off, practicing two days a week, 2-/12 hours a practice to get ready for today. The community can rest assured that there are at least 21 healthy officers walking the streets.”
Organizers are still calculating the monies raised for the Cape Coral Police Department’s Police Athletic League.
