Brush fire damages home, threatens duplex

By Staff

A brush fire damaged a home under construction and threatened a duplex in the north Cape today, burning three acres before being brought under control.
Cape Coral firefighters responded to the brush fire just north of the intersection of Chiquita Boulevard N. and Embers Parkway at 3 p.m.
The fire threatened two homes on the block where it started. The fire burned up the rear pool deck of one house under construction and was stopped behind an occupied duplex that was wood construction.
The area that was burnt was approximately 3 acres and the fire was stopped from jumping to surrounding blocks by the quick actions of firefighters.
Cape Police assisted with traffic control on the busy roadway.
Firefighters from Stations 5 and 8 will be soaking the parched ground for another hour to prevent the chance of rekindle, officials said shortly before 5 p.m.
The fast-moving, wind-driven fire was likely the result of carelessly discarded smoking material along Chiquita Blvd N., officials added.
With heat indexes of 110 degrees and low relative humidity the department encourages everyone to be extremely cautious dealing with fire of any kind.
