The ex-wife of a Cape Coral man who was found fatally shot in his home Sunday has been charged with trafficking in marijuana.
Alina Valdez-Martinez, 44, of 1901 Linhart Ave., Apt. 32, Fort Myers, was arrested and charged Monday with one count of marijuana traffick excess of 25 pounds or 300 plants or more. She was booked into the Lee County Jail.
Details on Valdez-Martinez’s arrest were not immediately available.
Police have not named Valdez-Martinez as a person of interest in the death, which remains under investigation.
As of Tuesday, she had been released from jail on $30,000 bond.
Valdez-Martinez could not be reached for comment.
Police responded to a 911 call at 5:15 p.m. Sunday at 427 N.W. 10th St. Upon arrival, officers met with Valdez-Martinez, who told police that she had arrived at her ex-husband’s house and found him dead inside the residence.
Police reported Ariel Desada, 40, was found dead from a gunshot wound.
Detectives are working the case as a homicide, officials said.
According to court documents, Desada had been found guilty in May of activities by an unlicensed contractor. He was ordered to pay a $510 fine.
In August 2009, Desada was a tenant in a home that was foreclosed upon, and prior to that, he and a woman were evicted from a residence, the court documents state. Earlier that year, Valdez-Martinez filed for child support.
In 2008, a home Desada and Valdez-Martinez owned was foreclosed.
Valdez-Martinez has a court date scheduled for July 18.
