Game Guys, a mobile gaming and laser tag theater, paid a special visit to
Patriot Elementary School Wednesday morning as a treat for the 4th grade students for doing well on their FCAT test this year.
Principal Carol Bromby said this year they had students who earned a six on their writing test for the first time, which is the top score that can be achieved.
“We were thrilled,” Bromby said.
Pete Rodriguez, owner of The Game Guys, said the truck has all the major gaming systems like Wii, XBox Connect, Playstation and 3D gaming.
He said the mobile game theater provides an opportunity for the kids to play games together head-to-head.
“They are having fun,” Rodriguez said. “You can see the laughter and them having a really good time.”
Each 4th grade class had 30 minutes to play video games Wednesday morning while the truck was parked at the school for three hours.
There were game systems located inside of the truck that the students had an opportunity to play, along with two flat screen televisions on the outside where students could join in dancing to Just Dance 2 and bowling on the Wii Sport Resort.
“I think it is great,” 4th grade teacher Orlando Herrera said about the activity. “It was a reward incentive for the entire grade level because they did really well.”
Herrera had one student who received a six on her writing FCAT test and four students who earned a five.
Kailyn Kluge, the 4th grade student who received a perfect six, said the FCAT test was pretty easy because she wrote about her favorite weather.
“I wrote about rainy weather,” Kluge said. “I like to slip and slide through big puddles.”
She was looking forward to dancing to Just Dance 2 with her classmates.
Herrera said he spent a lot of time on mechanics, strong verbs and complex sentences to help his students prepare for the writing test. He said as long as the students had the mechanics down, they would do well on the test.
Rodriguez said he and his wife began the business a year ago April because they had always wanted to work with kids. In addition to visiting schools, he said they also do birthday parties.
