A Cape Coral man accused of firing a pistol at a couple and their 3-year-old daughter last week has been taken into custody by authorities.
Samuel Robert Bruner, 35, of 4231 S.E. 19th Ave., was arrested and charged Tuesday with three counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon without intent to kill. He is being at the jail on $375,000 bond.
According to police, the couple went to the home of the wife’s employer on June 1 to collect payment for a bounced paycheck. While his wife was inside, the husband was confronted outside by Bruner, the employer’s boyfriend.
Police responded, but the husband declined to press charges.
Thursday afternoon, the couple were bringing their child home from the park. While they were walking in the 100 block of Southeast 24th Avenue, Bruner exited a relative’s home nearby and allegedly confronted the husband.
According to the police, Bruner told the man that he was going to kill him because the man had called the police the previous day. Bruner pulled out a pistol and pointed it in the direction of the man, his wife and his daughter.
He called the man a snitch and allegedly fired the pistol in their direction.
No one was injured, police reported.
The husband told his wife to run into their home with their child, and he remained outside with Bruner. The man said the police had been called and Bruner fled the scene. Detectives arrived and began a search for Bruner.
On Tuesday, the Cape police and the U.S. Marshall’s Fugitive Task Force located him at the Sunoco, at 2709 Cleveland Ave., in Fort Myers.
Bruner was taken into custody and transferred to the Lee County Jail, where he was booked.
He has a court date July 11.
