Participants sought for Miss Cape Coral Beauty Pageant

By Staff

The Wedding Professionals of Southwest Florida is seeking individuals who want to participate in the Miss Cape Coral Beauty Pageant in August at the Palmetto Pine Country Club.
Mitzie Barnes, president of the Wedding Professionals of Southwest Florida, said the Cape Coral chamber stopped holding the pageant in Cape Coral, so the group is going to hold it from now on.
“I thought we needed to do something positive for the Cape and thought this would be very good,” she said.
The contestants need to be 17-22 years old, a resident of Cape Coral, a high school senior or college freshman, have a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or higher and have a verified sponsor. The application must be submitted by June 21. The first 20 eligible applicants will be accepted.
Applications can be found online at www.theweddingprofessionalsofswfl.com and can be dropped off at La Venezia Ballroom, Palmetto Pine Country Club, Rnells Tuxedos, Say It With Flowers of Cape Coral, CRE8 Salon and Spa and I Do Bridal.
The pageant will be held Sunday, Aug. 14 from 2-5 p.m. Tickets are $5 in advance or at the door, and all the proceeds will go to the Veterans Foundation.
The winner will receive a $1,500 one-time scholarship, an appearance in a commercial for Fuccillo Kia, along with being on the Fucillo Kia float in the Edison Pageant of Light Parade in February 2012. The runner-up will receive a $500 one-time scholarship.
Some of the judges for the pageant will include Mayor John Sullivan along with the former runners-up of Miss America, Miss Teen Florida and Miss Texas pageants.
She said the pageant is all about getting the community involved again.
“We are getting everyone involved,” Barnes said.
She said the winner of the pageant can also run for Miss Florida and Miss America because they are all scholarships based.
The contestants will participate in an evening gown category, physical fitness category, formal interview and a demonstration of their talent.
Barnes said the girls will also do a group dance routine in outfits donated by Belks Department Store.
She said the pageant will also include military uniform escorts for the girls.
“I think it is going to be very good for the Cape,” Barnes said about the pageant.
