Burglars take $53,000 worth of items from home, leave man with bloody nose

By Staff

A man received a bloody nose Sunday when he walked in on two people robbing his home and he tried to stop them, according to a police report.
At about 7 p.m., Cape Coral police responded to a report of a burglary at a home in the 300 block of Southeast 29th Terrace. The man told police that he walked into the master bedroom to discover a man in a ski mask passing items through a bedroom window to a second person outside.
He ran to intervene and the man reportedly hit the resident in the nose with an unknown object. The man said he fell to the floor, and the burglar knocked a hutch from a bedroom dresser on top of him and fled out the open window.
According to the report, the burglars took off with a rolling suitcase that contained multiple pieces of designer jewelry worth an estimated $50,050, prescription medications valued at about $2,100, two insurance checks, a $300 paycheck, $500 cash, the title to a vehicle and $150 in gift cards.
The man sustained a bloody nose and multiple abrasions to one arm.
The man told police that he went into the bedroom after his mother heard a noise come from the room and asked him to check it out. She said she heard her son scream for help and she went to the bedroom. She found him under the hutch and she helped lift it off of him.
Officers determined the point of entry was a broken bedroom window. A carton of cigarettes and other miscellaneous items were left on the ground outside of the window by the burglars, according to the report.
Some of the pieces of jewelry reported stolen include: an 18-karat gold snake bracelet, worth $15,000; a band-type ring with princess-cut diamonds, worth $10,000; a snake ring, worth $7,000; and a nameplate necklace with the words “Melissa,” worth $4,000.
