A lockdown at East Lee County High School was lifted shortly before 11 a.m. Wednesday.
The school was placed on lockdown after the Lee County Sheriff’s Office received a 911 call at approximately 7:47 a.m. in which the caller mentioned a threat.
Sheriff’s Office Communications personnel traced the call to a cell tower in the area of the school at 715 Thomas Sherwin Ave, Lehigh Acres. Due to the proximity of the cell phone tower to the school and the nature of the threat the school was placed on lockdown and deputies responded to the area to ensure the safety of the students, the staff, and the neighborhood.
The school resource officer and responding deputies searched the school and the neighborhood and located no threats. Aviation and K-9 units assisted in these searches.
There were no injuries reported during the incident.
The investigation is ongoing. Detectives are not releasing the nature of the threat at this time, officials said.
