Charter boat catches fire west of Boca Grande Pass
A charter boat with three people onboard erupted in flames Monday about two miles west of Boca Grande Pass.
The people on board the 29-foot boat including the captain evacuated onto a nearby fishing boat and were safe, according to information provided by the Lee County Sheriff’s Office.
The Coast Guard received a May Day call about 6 p.m. that the vessel was on fire. A security perimeter was established while fire department boats tried to extinguish the flames.
The boat was destroyed.
The Sheriff’s Office is leading the investigation.
The cause of the fire had not been released Tuesday. No other information was released.
