Alleged ‘inappropriate relationship’ involving teen leads to arrests

By Staff

An alleged sexual relationship between a man and a teenager has resulted in the arrest of the man and a second adult in Cape Coral.
Timothy Levon Cook, 44, and Jack A. Baker, 40, were arrested and charged Thursday following an investigation into an allegation of an “inappropriate relationship” between Cook and a person under the age of 18, according to arrest reports.
Cook has been charged with sexual assault by person 24 years of age or older sexual battery victim 16 or 17 years of age. As of Friday afternoon, he remained at the Lee County Jail on $50,000. Cook has a court date June 6.
Baker has been charged with one count each of distribute obscene material to a minor and child neglect without great harm. He also remained at the Lee County Jail Friday. He has a $11,500 bond, and his court date is also June 6.
According to the reports, Cook moved into Baker’s home in December. The two watched a pornographic video with the juvenile because the teenager was “very curious about sex.” A couple days later, Cook reportedly initiated sexual relations with the juvenile and it continued on a regular basis until the start of March.
Cook told detectives that he did not feel that what he was doing was wrong because he never forced the teen and Baker was aware of the relationship.
He also stated that the juvenile is almost 18.
During questioning, Baker reportedly stated that he showed the teen the video to teach the juvenile that it is “OK for men to have sex with men and women to have sex with women.” He denied knowledge of any relationship.
Baker later acknowledged that the juvenile is “developmentally delayed” and that he feels the teen has a mental capacity of about 14 or 15 years old.
Based on the juvenile’s “developmental delays,” the teen needed to be interviewed by the Child Protection Team, according to the reports.
During the interview, the juvenile confirmed that sexual acts with Cook had occurred and that Cook would get mad if told no, according to police reports. The teen also said he or she was made uncomfortable by the pornographic video and looked at the Internet on a cell phone instead of watching it.
