A house fire Wednesday afternoon in Cape Coral caused $75,000 in damage and displaced a family of six.
At 3:05 p.m., Cape dispatch received a call about a fire at 2201 S.E. Third Terrace. Fire crews arrived to find a fire burning in the kitchen, according to city spokeswoman Connie Barron. The flames were extinguished by 3:27 p.m.
The fire was contained to the kitchen area. There were no injuries, and the occupants of the home — five adults and an infant — were evacuated.
Barron reported that a Cape fire inspector conducted an investigation and found that the fire had started in the kitchen on the right rear burner of the stovetop. The cause of the fire remained undetermined Thursday afternoon.
“It takes at least two weeks to get the samples back from the lab, so it will remain undetermined until then,” Battalion Chief Alan Carter of the Cape fire department, said.
The State Fire Marshal’s Office was contacted.
Lee County Electric Cooperative responded and pulled the electric meter, Barron reported. A city building inspector yellow-tagged the residence.
Colin Downey, spokesman for the Lee County chapter of the American Red Cross, said the family of six has accepted help from the organization.
“We put them up in a hotel for several days,” he said. “And we provided them with some financial assistance to help with immediate needs.”
The American Red Cross also offered referrals to United Way partners.
