Cape Coral Police detectives from the Property Crimes Unit made two arrests in a burglary investigation on Wednesday.
Christopher Civitarese, 20, of 2056 N.E. 20th Terr., and Michael King, 18, of 2124 N.W. 28th Ave., each were charged with burglary of a conveyance, criminal mischief and petit theft, officials said.
The two are charged in connection to a vehicle burglary reported at 220 S.E. 1st St. at 2:30 a.m. on April 13.
The victim told officers that he heard a noise outside by his car, which was parked in his driveway. When he got outside to check it out, he saw an unknown male standing in his driveway. When the victim asked the male what he was doing, he told the victim that he needed directions. The male then ran from the driveway on foot. At the same time, the victim noticed a small light blue two-door car speed away.
The victim looked inside of his car and noticed that the center console of his car had been broken and several items were missing. A description of the male as well as the car that was seen leaving was broadcast over the police radio.
Moments later, Officer Dan Leger saw a vehicle matching the description at the Mobil station at 12 N.E. Pine Island Road. A man matching the suspect’s description was pumping gas.
Leger detained the man and the victim was brought to the scene for identification. The victim identified Christopher Civitarese as the man who was in his driveway. A search of the car revealed numerous electronics, a cell phone and a car radio, officials said, adding Civitarese also had a prescription pill bottle that belonged to another person in his pants pocket along with credit cards that belonged to yet another person.
The owner of the credit cards was contacted by police and it was discovered that his car had been broken into also.
While at Police Headquarters, information was gathered that identified Michael King as the owner of the blue 2-door car that reportedly was seen leaving the area of the first discovered burglary. Probable cause was also established for King, who police allege was involved with Civitarese during the crimes.
