Fourth annual Cause 4 Paws Cut-A-Thon Sunday

By Staff

The Shotzie & Co. Hair Design fourth annual Cause 4 Paws Cut-A-Thon will be held this Sunday to benefit the Grey Muzzle Foundation and Big Hearts For Big Dogs organization.
Shotzie and Co. Hair Design owner Judith “Shotzie” Moore said they began the event four years ago because everyone at the hair salon is big animal fans. She said she currently has three dogs that she adopted from a shelter.
“We are very pet friendly,” she said.
All the proceeds collected from the day will be donated to the Gray Muzzle Foundation, which will then split half of the funds with the local organization Big Hearts For Big Dogs.
Moore said an individual from the Grey Muzzle Foundation contacted her two years ago after she put an ad regarding the event. She said they decided that they wanted to split the money that was raised and give it to a local organization — Big Hearts For Big Dogs.
The Grey Muzzle Foundation provides funds and resources to animal shelters, rescue organizations, sanctuaries and other non-profit organizations nationwide, so they can improve the lives of at-risk senior dogs. The Big Hearts for Big Dogs organization was started by a group of individuals who wanted to be advocates for large dogs.
The event will be held from 11 a.m. until 6 p.m. Facials, chair massages, shampoo and haircuts for a $20 donation and manicures for a $10 donation will be offered. Moore said both of the owners from Envy, along with a hair dresser, will assist her and her five stylists during the event.
Cause 4 Paws will also feature live music from the classic rock band, The Brew, raffles, pizza, hot dogs, beer, wine and soda.
A psychic also will do some readings during the event.
“Come on down and party with the band and have a good time,” Moore said. “Hopefully we will make some money for a good cause. As long as it works every year I will keep it going.”
Individuals who attend are encouraged to donate dog food, blankets and dog bowls for local shelters.
The first year the event was held, Moore said they raised $1,400 for the Grey Muzzle Foundation and $1,600 the second year. Last year $1,700 was raised and split between Grey Muzzle Foundation and Big Hearts For Big Dogs.
“My goal is $2,000 this year, so we can split it between the two of them,” she said.
The proceeds made from shampoos and haircuts, manicures, stylist tips, food and drinks will all go into the bin for the two organizations.
“If we get tipped, it goes into the bin,” Moore said.
Big Hearts For Big Dogs also will have some dogs at the event for adoptions.
