Lee County Sheriff’s Office, deputies, state attorney, citizens recognized
On, Monday March 14, members of the Lee County Sheriffs Office, a Lee County prosecutor and two local citizens were awarded for their outstanding efforts in the battle against impaired driving in Florida. The M.A.D.D. Florida 2011 Law Enforcement Recognition event was held in Orlando and honored individuals from across the state for their accomplishments in thwarting the deadly crime of drunk driving.
Five deputies with the Lee County Sheriff’s Office were honored for removing 100 or more impaired drivers from local roadways in 2010. Century Achievers receiving the Life Saver Award were Deputy Robert Shaw, Deputy Jeff Pierot, Deputy Glenn Jones, Deputy First Class James Didio and Cpl. Lenny Gould.
Gould also received the Millennium Achievers award, a rare feat. After more than 10 years of service to Lee County, Gould, a Cape Coral resident, has exceeded 1,000 DUI arrests during his career.
Also awarded were Bruce and Cheryl Scheiner of Fort Myers. They were presented the M.A.D.D. HERO of the Year award for their support and contributions to DUI enforcement in Florida.
Other award categories of note include local Assistant State Attorney Susan Dendy, one of six attorneys in Florida nominated for outstanding prosecutor of the year; the Lee County Sheriffs Office, one of eight agencies recognized for sustaining enforcement and education programs locally; and, nominees for Outstanding Dedication to DUI Enforcement, Deputy First Class Selena Lee and Deputy Jeff Pierot for their concerted efforts in the development and enhanced training of fellow Lee County deputies.
