The numbers weren’t overwhelming, but the first weekend at Sun Splash Family Waterpark in Cape Coral proved successful, according to park manager Sandy Greiner.
It helped they had the weather was nice, as last year’s opening weekend saw the park battle cold and rain. Saturday started off cool, but by Sunday afternoon hundreds of people had packed the park for some fun in the sun.
“Overall I’m pretty happy,” Greiner said. “The weather wasn’t great but it didn’t stop anybody from coming.”
The park went through much needed maintenance over the off season, replacing water filters and cleaning and painting the pools, and adding more shady areas and chairs.
“I’m getting a lot of comments … maintenance wise the park looks really good,” she added.
Greiner said she also is offering new food items and “Aquatheater” nights, giving park go-ers what they want.
She said she’ll likely start offering frozen tropical drinks for sale out of the new tiki hut, because people asked for it.
Trying to tailor the park’s offerings specifically to the needs and wants of the people is what Sun Splash is all about, Greiner said.
“Some things take a little bit longer to implement, but making smoothies and tropical drinks, I said we can do that, no problem,” she added.
The park is only open on weekends for now, but will be open all week long when Lee County kids are on spring break.
Discount season passes are also still available, Greiner said.
With one successful weekend in the books, Greiner and her staff are looking forward to seeing what next weekend brings.
“It was a good weekend,” she said.
