Man dies in multi-car accident on Veterans Parkway

By Staff
Emergency personnel inspect one of the vehicles involved in this morning's multi-vehicle accident on Veterans Parkway at Country Club Boulevard.
Several of the vehicles involved in Friday morning's accident sit on Veterans Parkway.

A man died Friday morning after his Jeep clipped a truck on Veterans Parkway and collided into seven more vehicles before coming to a stop.
The man, who officials have not yet identified, was driving the green Jeep Cherokee west on Veterans when he clipped a truck that was traveling south on Country Club Boulevard, according to Lt. Tony Sizemore, with the Cape Coral police. The accident appears to have occurred at about 8 a.m.
The impact of the collision caused the Jeep to skid across the median into the eastbound lanes of Veterans. It struck seven vehicles in the eastbound lanes before eventually landing on its side, Sizemore said. The driver of the Jeep was pronounced dead at the scene.
Police are withholding his name pending notification of next of kin.
According to Sizemore, it appears either the Jeep or truck ran a red light.
“One of them did, but we’re not sure which one,” he said.
The extent of the injuries to the occupants of the truck, and other vehicles involved, are unknown at this time. Police have not identified those involved.
“There were no other serious injuries other than the fatality,” he said.
Traffic investigators with the Cape Coral police are currently on scene.
More information will be released when a preliminary investigation is done.
The eastbound lanes of Veterans remained closed until around 1 p.m.
