Teens charged with criminal mischief for knocking down mailboxes

By Staff

Three people, including two brothers, reportedly damaged approximately 40 mailboxes, two street signs and a palm tree in southwest Cape Coral.
Steven William Gauthier, 19, and Nathaniel Carter Gauthier, 18, both of 624 S.W. 56th St., are facing charges of criminal mischief property damage $200 and under. Both were being held at the Lee County Jail without bond Tuesday.
Also charged was Robert Michael Nuccio Jr., 17, of 3209 S.E. First Court.
Information on Nuccio’s custody status was unavailable Tuesday.
Cape police received complaints on the morning of Feb. 26 about damaged mailboxes and street signs around El Dorado Parkway, Sands Boulevard and Beach Parkway in the southwest area of the city. Several neighborhoods within an estimated three-mile area were involved, according to reports.
One victim provided surveillance video to police that showed a vehicle stop outside his residence the night before. A person exits the vehicle and kicks over the man’s mailbox and his neighbor’s mailbox. Police later learned of a party that night attended by juveniles at a home on Southwest 24th Place.
The Gauthiers and Nuccio were developed as possible suspects.
During questioning, the teens reportedly admitted to police that they had attended the party and had “hit a few mailboxes” on their way out. Each teen was charged with 11 counts of criminal mischief, according to the reports.
The brothers each have a court date scheduled for March 29.
