A celebration of four-part harmony, barbershop-style concert featuring The Cape Chorale will fill the theater at Island Coast High School with music for two shows on Saturday, March 19.
Bob Lachance said this year the Happiness Emporium, an international winning quartet, will perform gospel and barbershop music for 20 minutes in the first and second half of the show.
“No matter where you sit, there isn’t a bad seat,” he said, adding that the acoustics at Island Coast High School are phenomenal.
The performance will feature some fun songs, old melodies and a college marching band spoof called “Please Mr. Columbus Turn the Ship Around.”
“The proudest song that we do is ‘Proud to be American,'” Lachance said, adding that the harmony society authorized the song to be sung in quartet fashion with the whole chorus.
“You have 40 guys singing their hearts out because they all love this country,” he said.
Between the chorus songs, quartets within the Cape Chorale will also do performances during the show.
This is the Cape Chorale’s biggest income producing show of the year. They have been holding the concert for the past 25 years with different members.
Tickets can be purchased by calling Lachance at 239-574-7861 for $17. The two-hour performance will be held at 1:30 p.m. and at 7 p.m. on March 19.
He said they will have drawings during the afternoon and night show for those who put their ticket stubs in a box. The drawing will include two tickets for next year’s show, along with two tickets for their singing Valentines.
Lachance invites men who love to sing to come down to the Rotino Center during rehearsal every Monday from 7-9:30 p.m. He said guests are invited to attend.
“It is very easy to get a guy who has a good voice to blend with us,” he said.
Lachance has been singing since he was 7 years old. He said he never sang with a quartet or chorus until seven years ago when he became a member of the Cape Chorale.
