Cape Coral city manager announces reorganization of city services

By Staff

Cape Coral City Manager Gary King announced on Thursday additional reorganization plans for several city services, most of which previously were part of the larger Public Works Department.
These changes are effective immediately.
Facilities Management, Fleet Operations and Real Estate Services will be consolidated within the Financial Services Department under the supervision of Finance Director Vicki Bateman. Risk Management, which currently is in the Human Resources Department, also will be moved to Financial Services.
“These moves will result in more-efficient operations and better oversight of these services,” said King in a prepared statement. “I am confident that through this reorganization, Finance Director Bateman will provide the management and leadership required to ensure the productivity of these key support services.”
This is the second phase of a reorganization plan King announced last week. He is seeking Council approval to create a new Utilities Department and hire a director to oversee those operations.
King also indicated his intent to merge the Transportation and Stormwater divisions into another unit of city operations. That phase is currently being organized with the assistance of the acting Public Works Director Steve Neff. This phase should be completed within the next few weeks.
