Yachts, cars, live music and plenty of vendors will fill Cape Harbour this weekend during the 5th Annual Water $ Wheels event, which is held for the entire family to enjoy.
Real Mark Realty Event Coordinator Glenda Swager said they decided to introduce the event to the community five years ago because Cape Harbour
wanted to show the community the many beautiful yachts that are at the marina. She said they then decided to add cars to the annual event as well.
“The whole weekend is open for yachts,” Swager said.
In addition, there will be approximately 20 companies who will display their boats in the marina, along with the opportunity to tour yachts throughout the day on Friday.
The unveiling of the new American Spirit Racing race car, “Formula 1000,” will take place on Friday at 7 p.m. The car will be on display during the entire weekend. The race car will compete in the F1000 Pro Series Championship.
The event will also feature live entertainment throughout the weekend. On Friday, Headcount will play from 6-10 p.m., The Juice will perform from 6-10 p.m. on Saturday and Acoustic Addiction will play from 4-8 p.m. on Sunday.
The event will also feature a car show on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Swager said they currently have 60 cars registered, but that number could climb to 80 cars by this weekend. On Saturday, there will be 17 vendors on hand.
The car show will be held across from Rumrunners in the parking lot.
“The car people are so cool,” Swager said. “They shine.”
She explained that Costco is doing a top-notch job with the prizes for the car show. The best of show will receive a $100 stainless steel grill, courtesy of Costco.
A Custom Carts will have six golf carts on display Saturday as well.
The Charlotte Harbor Paddlers will present “Draggin Dragons” on Saturday from noon until 3 p.m., along with a Dragon Boat demonstration.
The United States Customs and Border Protection Office of Air and Marine will have its 39-foot Midnight Express Interceptor on display from 4-8 p.m. on Friday and beginning at 10 a.m. on Saturday. Marine Interdiction Agent Alan Brown will be on board the interceptor this weekend.
Custom wooden boat builder Col. Hugh Saint will be at the event to talk about his craft, along with Will Stout’s 38-foot Honduran mahogany runabout “Rumrunner.”
“Every year it always grows,” Swager said about the event, adding that they “are looking forward to a wonderful event” this year as well.
Banana Bay Tour Company is offering sunset dolphin cruises on Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
