A Fort Myers man charged with several armed robberies in Cape Coral has been sentenced to nine years in state prison.
Oscar Dan Davis, 24, of 5512 Fifth Ave. #1, was sentenced Thursday for his role in a series of armed robberies he committed throughout the city in 2008. Davis would confront his victims in the early morning hours, threaten them with a handgun, and steal their money and property.
In one such robbery, Davis stole the victim’s wallet and used his credit card to pay his cell phone bill.
This is how detectives were able to identify him as a suspect and eventually arrest him on armed robbery charges, officials said Monday.
While awaiting adjudication on the 2008 arrest, Davis also was identified as a suspect in a string of subsequent residential burglaries occurring from February through March of 2010.
Davis was arrested by Cape Coral Police in March of 2010 on charges of burglary and dealing in stolen property stemming from a home break-in on Feb. 14. Davis broke into the home and stole jewelry and later sold it to a pawn shop in Fort Myers.
Davis was sentenced to nine years in the Florida Department of Corrections with a Career Criminal designation of Habitual Felony Offender.
When the judge sentenced him to nine years, Davis thanked him for his leniency, officials said.
