Krym to continue as interim city auditor
Cape Coral City Council unanimously supported retaining Margaret Krym as interim city auditor, but exactly how long she’ll be in the position is still unknown.
With Krym as the interim auditor, it leaves her former position as assistant city auditor vacant. There is also a “three quarter” auditor position still vacant in the office.
Krym said she anticipates being short staffed over the next few months.
“We don’t have a lot of depth in the department,” Krym said.
City Council will likely advertise the position in the coming days, but whether it will advertise for the city auditor position, or the assistant city auditor position, is unclear.
Krym said she would definitely apply for the for the city auditor position once the job is advertised.
Until the staff is sorted out permanently, Krym said she could use temporary contract employees for specific audits.
With the three quarter audit position vacant, she said the cost savings achieved could be used to pay the contractors.
Mayor John Sullivan suggested bringing in either former employees or people already familiar with the city’s audit procedures.
Councilmember Bill Deile urged caution when it comes to staffing, adding that Krym and her staff already have their hands full. The sooner the office is fully staffed, the better, Deile said.
“They are staffed rather thin,” Deile said, adding, “If we expect Margaret to do her job plus the job of the city auditor, I don’t think that’s a wise thing to do.”
