Early voters cast ballots on Monday

By Staff

Early voting for November’s general election began Monday morning with more than 2,000 voters.
Lee County Supervisor of Elections Sharon Harrington said as of 3:30 p.m. Monday, a total of 2,063 voters had already paid a visit to one of the many early voting locations.
The Election Center Branch Office in Fort Myers had the highest turnout with 601 voters and the Cape Coral Branch Office had the second highest turnout with 505 voters.
Harrington said they only had about 13,000 voters come out to the primary election in August. She said if the voters keep going to the polls at the same rate for 12 days, it will be a really good turnout.
“I am very happy with the turnout so far,” she said.
Additional privacy booths were sent to the locations Monday to provide people with the opportunity to start marking their ballots sooner.
Harrington said since the ballots are front and back, it is taking voters a little bit longer to try to fill in the ovals, which was not affecting the wait time too much.
“The lines have been moving fairly well,” she said.
Harrington encourages voters to be prepared before they travel to one of the locations by looking at a sample ballot. She said people can either view the ballot that was sent in the mail or go online to become more familiar with the verbiage.
Early voting locations include the Cape Coral Branch Office at 1031 S.E. 9th Place, No. 3; the Lee County Elections Main Office at 2480 Thompson St.; the Election Center Branch Office at 13180 S. Cleveland Ave.; the Bonita Springs Branch Office at 24951 Old US 41, No. 10; and the East County Regional Library at 881 Gunnery Road.
Harrington encourages “everyone to come out” and vote.
Early voting will be held from 10 a.m. until 6 p.m., Monday through Friday, and 9 a.m. until 5 p.m. on Saturday. Early voting will end Saturday, Oct. 30.
