The Pirates in Paradise “Curse of the Coral” festivities will be held at The Joint at Cape Harbour Saturday, Oct. 23.
Bob Mulroy, managing partner of The Joint, said he is trying to make the annual event more family friendly by introducing some activities for the youngsters.
This year the event will feature a treasure hunt for the children. The participants will receive a Cape Harbour Promenade map to find treasures, such as candy and other goodies.
High Maintenance Salon will also have a station set up during the event to provide tattoos and hair braids.
Mulroy said he encourages people to decorate their boats as pirate ships for the parade, which begins at 2 p.m. The parade will head out of the Blue Way Canal for an hour and a half. Those who are on the parade route are encouraged to decorate their houses for a chance to win the best house category along the parade route prize.
Other prizes include ugliest pirate costume and sexiest wench costume.
There will be live music from 2-8 p.m., along with a spiced rum challenge between Rumrunners and The Joint.
Mulroy said whenever they do events at Cape Harbor they get spectacular turnouts.
“Everyone should come dressed like a pirate,” he said. “It’s a good fun day to let your hair down and get you in the mood for Halloween.”
The event is a benefit for the Harry Chapin Food Bank. Mulroy said he starts to raise awareness in October for the food bank, so they have the finances they need running into their busy times of Thanksgiving and Christmas.
“I want to make sure they have their finances and resources to help those people out,” he said.
The money gathered through the 50/50 raffle the day of the event will be provided to the food bank.
He said The Joint will also be selling T-shirts, accepting donations and canned foods every Tuesday leading up to the event for the food bank as well.
The event is always held the Saturday before Halloween weekend.
