Two area chambers, civic association to hold candidate forum

Two area chambers and the North Fort Myers Civic Association have joined forces to host the 2010 Great Political Candidate Forum on Tuesday, Oct. 12.
“We’ve secured a 1,000-seat hall,” said North Fort Myers Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Kim Constantine. The Chamber’s Public Affairs Committee is partnering with the the North Fort Myers Civic Association and the Southwest Florida Hispanic Chamber for the event.
“All state and local candidates have been contacted and many have sent an RSVP already,” Constantine said.
Candidates who have formally committed include, with name, party and political race:

This event will be held at Faith Assembly of God Church’s auditorium, at 7101 Bayshore Rd. in North Fort Myers.
Snacks and beverages will be provided by the North Fort Myers Chamber Public Affairs Committee from 5 p.m. to 6:45 p.m. Pre-forum networking will include business exposition tables sponsored by Ray Hair State Farm Insurance, Abbey Carpet & Floor, R&D Construction, BJ’S s Wholesale Club, EZ To Use Bluebook, Lee County Insurance and Sun Country Homes Realty.
Officials from the Lee County Elections Office will also provide information at the event.
The forum itself will start at 7 p.m. Networking and meet-and-greet opportunities start at 5 p.m. inside Fellowship Hall next to auditorium. Representatives from the North Fort Myers Chamber and SWFL Hispanic chamber will provide free community and business resource materials.
Gregg Makepeace, president of the North Fort Myers Civic Association, has been involved in local candidate forums since 2006. “As a citizen, this is the time to attend the forum and get to know the candidates. Know what they stand for, and above all else, get out and vote.”
He hopes a momentum started in August will continue. “At the Primary Election Forum we had a respectable crowd, but we would like to see that more than double.”
