Ariels to host fund-raisers for injured soldier

By Staff

Ariels New England Seafood and More will host a fund-raiser for PFC Corey Kent this weekend.
Owner Jennifer Cotten said they initially got the idea of holding the fund-raiser for Kent after Carol and Jim Marshal approached her and told her about Corey and encouraged her to hold a fund-raiser for him.
“Jim and Carol are always donating their time for any of the fund-raisers that we do,” she said.
Cotten said they are holding the fund-raiser to help the Kent family with any additional expenses they may encounter.
“He is going to need so much to get back to living life and hopefully enjoy the rest of what is left for him,” she said. “Hopefully he can live the next 60 years or more.”
On Saturday, Sept. 11, Ariels will have an all-day New England Fish Fry for $9.95, which also includes take-out. Ariels will donate $5 of every meal sold to Kent and his family.
“Nothing comes out of their pocket,” Cotten said.
As of Tuesday afternoon, the restaurant had already received 250 orders for to-go on Saturday.
When Ariel’s hosts a fund-raiser, normally it just does a car show, but Sunday’s event this time ended up to be a whole day affair.
Sunday will feature the “Hot Chili Rods” car show from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m., a 50/50 raffle and silent auction from 10 a.m. until 1:30 p.m., a car wash from 11 a.m. until 3 p.m., a poker run at 12:30 p.m., and the Calendar Girls from 2:30 until 3:30 p.m.
From 1 to 3 p.m., the Presidente Girls will be selling beer and signing autographs, Cotten said.
A number of businesses and organizations have donated items that will be auctioned off during Sunday’s activities to raise funds for Kent, she said.
Those who want to participate in the car show or poker run can just show up on Sunday, Cotten said. There is no charge for individuals to participate in the car show. A fee will be charged for the poker run, which will also be donated to the Kent family.
Other live entertainment will include Carol and Jim – Just Us Marshals, Chuck Noonan – Sunday Morning Madness, Johnny Ray, Rick Keeler, Reilly Art Works & Music and more.
The Mariner High School ROTC will also be holding a car wash Sunday at the restaurant.
“It’s going to be a busy fun day with a lot of things going on.” Cotten said. “We are hoping to raise a lot of money for him.”
Cotten said the overwhelming response in helping Kent has been incredible. She said although people cannot rub two nickels together because they are hurting with the horrible economy, they are still calling and offering their help.
“You feel like you are living in a great area and great country,” Cotten said.
