Two remain hospitalized following crash in which third person died on scene

By Staff

Two people remained hospitalized Tuesday following a single-vehicle crash last week that resulted in the death of a third occupant.
John Patrick Roberts, 22, of 2007 Buddy Lane, North Fort Myers, and John Turner, 17, of 7587 Marx Drive, Fort Myers, were listed in good condition at Lee Memorial Hospital, according to hospital officials. Both were transported to the hospital Friday night with serious injuries after the traffic accident.
Brittany Nicole Lehman, 20, of 1717 Park Meadows Drive, Apt. 3, Fort Myers, died on scene from injuries she sustained in the crash.
According to Connie Barron, spokeswoman for the Cape Coral police, Roberts was driving a 1992 Nissan Sentra northbound on Del Prado Boulevard North at about 8 p.m. when the car left the road and hit a tree head on in the 3500 block. Roberts was traveling at a high rate of speed and alcohol was a factor, officials said.
After the vehicle drifted to the right and left the roadway, it skidded about 284 feet before striking the tree. Lehman was riding in the front passenger seat, police reported. She is the city’s sixth traffic fatality this year. A traffic homicide investigation is being conducted.
According to the traffic crash report, Lehman was wearing a seat belt at the time of the accident. Roberts also was wearing a seat belt, but Turner was not wearing one. Roberts and Turner were trauma alerted to the hospital.
The report also states that the estimated speed the Nissan was traveling at was 85 mph on a part of Del Prado that has a posted speed limit of 50 mph.
