Police recover stolen cemetery vases
Police following up on an anonymous tip Tuesday recovered five vases stolen from a Fort Myers cemetery.
Fort Myers Police Department received the call in reference to stolen cemetery vases being taken to Allied Recycling, a metal recycling company, at 3770 Veronica S. Shoemaker Blvd.
The caller provided a detailed description of the suspect’s vehicle.
Police responded to the recycling company and learned the transaction had already taken place. Police then located the suspect’s vehicle and conducted a traffic stop near the intersection of S.R. 82 and Buckingham Road. After further investigation police arrested Sarah Helton, 26, of North Fort Myers and charged her with dealing in stolen in property and providing false information to a dealer.
Police recovered five brass vases valued at $200 each. The vases had been stolen from Memorial Gardens on Colonial Boulevard.
When Helton sold the vases to the recycling company she received a total of $35 for the 22 pounds of brass, officials said.
