Lee County Sheriff Mike Scott has been selected by a group of his peers to join FBI Director Robert Mueller in addressing the 241st graduating class of the FBI National Academy later this year.
Scott is the first Southwest Florida sheriff, and the only person from his graduating class, to receive the prestigious honor as the session speaker.
“To be selected as the representative and spokesperson is my highest, professional accomplishment apart from being elected sheriff,” said Scott in a prepared statement released Thursday.
Five other finalists had been chosen to face Scott from a group of 261 law enforcement leaders who come from Alaska to Florida, Southern California to Maine, Africa to China, Canada to Greece and all points in between. The other law enforcement leaders were from Fort Belvoir, Virginia, Fort Worth, Texas, Bell Gardens, California, San Diego, California and Ontario, Canada.
Scott joins a handful of others from the Lee County Sheriff’s Office who have graduated from the intensive program since it was founded in 1935. Curriculum focuses on leadership and management training. Following graduation, each participant has the opportunity to join the FBI National Academy Associates, a dynamic organization or more than 16,000 law enforcement professionals who play a significant role in developing a higher level of competency, cooperation and integrity within the law enforcement community.
The National Academy is recognized globally among government leaders, law enforcement agencies and communities as the premier provider of law enforcement expertise, training, education and information.
