Cape police chief to retire

By Staff

Chief Rob Petrovich will retire from the Cape Coral Police Department in June, the city confirmed Wednesday.
The chief will address his retirement once he has set a date for teh action, police spokesperson Connie Barron said via e-mail.
“Until that time, Chief Petrovich is releasing the following statement,” Barron said.
“While I had not intended to announce my retirement until I filed the official paperwork, my plans to leave sometime in June have become public. I have decided that after 26 years of service to the City of Cape Coral, it is time for me to call it a career and retire from the Cape Coral Police Department.
“Cape Coral is a wonderful community, and I would like to thank all of the citizens who have supported their police department during my time as a Cape Coral police officer. The city has grown and changed so much since I started here on June 25, 1984. We have one of the finest police departments in the country, and we have achieved national recognition and accreditation as a flagship agency through the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies. Our police officers are here to protect and serve, and I know they will continue to work hard every day to keep this city safe.
“Finally, as I prepare to leave, I want to thank the many officers and civilians in the Cape Coral Police Department who I have had the privilege of working with these past 26 years. I have been honored to serve as their police chief for the past four years, and I know that they will continue to represent this department with honor and pride.”
