Council votes down swim center project
The Cape Coral City Council voted down the national swimming center early Tuesday morning after hours of discussion.
The council voted 5-3, with Mayor John Sullivan and Councilmembers Pete Brandt, Bill Deile, Chris Chulakes-Leetz and Erick Kuehn deciding against the project, according to staff at the City Clerk’s Office.
Councilmembers Marty McClain, Kevin McGrail and Derrick L. Donnell supporting the proposal.
The vote came following a lengthy formal presentation from city, county and National Swimming Center Officials Monday night. For the Concourse at Cape Coral to initially move forward, council needed to to endorse a Memorandum of Understanding.
City Council was still debating the issue at press time, and the final vote came early in the morning.
