Four local men face racketeering charges

By Staff

Four men have been arrested and charged with racketeering following an 16-month investigation by detectives at the Cape Coral Police Department.
Fort Myers residents Chris Lloyd Brown, 22, Tenorris Devon Cummings, 24, Kevonus Levon Green, 20, and John Altorance Johnson, 18, are each charged with two counts of public order crime racketeering tied to a series of property crimes committed across Lee County. A fifth person remained at large Wednesday.
Detectives with the CCPD’s Property Crimes Unit, led by Cape Detective Nick Jones, have been investigating the group in connection with a large number of property crimes in the Cape. The crimes were burglary, grand theft, larceny, dealing in stolen property, grand theft auto and grand theft of firearms, said Cape police spokeswoman Connie Barron.
The individuals were arrested and charged with the crimes, she reported. During the continuing investigation, however, Cape detectives found that the individuals were working in concert to commit the crimes. Detectives also believed that the group was responsible for additional crimes in Lee County.
Working together, Cape detectives and detectives from the Lee County Sheriff’s Office and Fort Myers Police Department determined that the group was responsible for more than two dozen property crimes in Lee, Barron said. The information was provided to the State Attorney’s Office.
The State Attorney’s Office issued an indictment listing eight cases in all three jurisdictions where the group worked together, along with 20 additional cases. RICO is the Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations Act, she reported. State RICO violations of racketeering and conspiracy were levied against all five individuals.
In addition, to the RICO charges:
* Brown, of 1901 Starnes Ave., Fort Myers, faces 14 felony charges.
* Cummings, of 1834 Delaware Ave., Fort Myers, faces 30 felony charges.
* Green, of 3011 Douglas St., Fort Myers, faces 25 felony charges.
* Johnson, of 4655 DeLeon St., Apt. 261, Fort Myers, faces six felony charges.
Barron said the majority of the felony charges are for burglary, larceny, dealing in stolen property and grand theft auto.
All four remained in the Lee County Jail as of Wednesday evening, according to jail booking records. Brown, Cummings and Green had been denied bond.
No bond information was listed for Johnson.
