BMX championships coming to Cape Coral
The Florida State BMX Championship races will be held in Cape Coral at the Strausser BMX Park on Saturday, May 15.
The track is located at 1410 S.W. 6th Place near the corner of Trafalgar Parkway and Skyline Boulevard. in Cape Coral.
This State Championship race is expected to bring in approximately 1200 BMX racers ranging in age from 3 years old to riders in their 50s…maybe older. Racers have been building points in State Qualifying races and local races all season and it all comes down to three motos and a Main race to decide the Champions. Racers compete in age groups and classes; Rookie, Novice, Expert, Girls, Cruisers and Professionals. The racing is fast, colorful, and filled with excitement as racers take off from the elevated starting gate and ride up to 30 miles per hour over hills, table tops, jumps and around three steeply angled paved berms… and remember they are on bicycles! Anything can happen, and often does. Crashes occur, but riders are seldom seriously injured. All riders wear protective clothing and helmets.
The schedule is set up for practice only on Friday, May 14, and racing begins at 9 a.m. on Saturday, May 15. The awards and trophies will be given out at the Awards Ceremony at Harborside Event Center on Sunday, May 16.
BMX is now a Summer Olympic Sport and some of the best BMX racers in the nation come from Florida and will be racing at this event.
