Circus brings ‘Illuscination’ to Germain Arena this weekend

Circus lovers will have something shout about this weekend when the Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Circus returns to Germain Arena. This time, just don’t expect your normal circus experience.
This year’s event features some new additions to the show, namely David DaVinci, an internationally renowned magician.
The theme of this year’s circus is “Illuscination.”
According to DaVinci, he worked closely with Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey’s team to create a unique show.
“This will be a unique experience,” he said. “We did a good job of making it fun and still having a bit of an edge to it. It will entertain multiple ages.”
Unlike the traditional role of the ringmaster, DaVinci will be hosting the show while simultaneously performing his magic.
He said the show, once it gets moving, flows at a quick pace, careful to avoid lulls.
All the circus traditions people have come to expect — lions, tigers, elephants, high wire acts, clowns — all of those elements will simply be heightened by the addition of magic.
Fans of DaVinci’s performances will be able to see him perform new tricks, like escaping from a straight jackets while suspended upside down above a cage of hungry lions.
“People who’ve seen my show can expect a lot of magic and illusions they haven’t seen before that have been made specifically for this show,” he said.
Tickets to the show also include an “all access pre-show,” according to DaVinci, giving them the chance to meet performers, animals and the illusionist himself.
DaVinci said he was busy Tuesday at Germain Arena as crews were beginning to set up shop.
It’s all part of the business, said DaVinci, who spends most of his year on the road, either traveling with his own show or with the circus.
Having been a huge Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Circus fan growing up, he said working with them has been a dream come true.
“Being on stage is what I love to do and being on the road goes with that,” he said. “It’s an incredible experience being able to do this.”
“Illuscination” runs Jan 7 – 10 at Germain arena in Estero. Check Ticketmaster or the Germain Arena box office for show times. Tickets start at $16.
