Controversial Cape Coral City Councilmember Eric Grill is planning on entering a not guilty plea during his Jan. 19 arraignment, according to his attorney, Lee Hollander.
The Naples-based attorney also said during a phone interview Wednesday that his client’s future on city council is uncertain.
“It’s under discussion, that’s all I can tell you,” Hollander said.
It was rumored on Tuesday that Grill had tendered his resignation from City Council, but that report proved false, according to officials in the city council’s office.
Tropical Twisters owner Lisa Johnson said Wednesday that Grill’s plan to enter a not guilty plea didn’t change his guilt in her eyes.
“He can enter a not guilty plea all he wants, but the proof is in the pudding,” Johnson said.
The Lee County Sheriff’s Office arrested Grill Tuesday on charges of stealing more than $65,000 from clients of his Cape Grande construction business, of which Johnson was a client.
The State’s Attorney’s office is now expected to examine the evidence against Grill.
Grill’s arraignment on the charges of felony fraud and larceny is Tuesday, Jan. 19.
