Lee County delegation meeting set for Dec. 15

By Staff

The annual Lee County Delegation meeting, along with the deadline for local bill and community budget requests for the 2010 Legislative Session, has been set for December by the chairman of the Lee County Legislative Delegation, state Rep. Gary Aubuchon.
On Tuesday, Dec. 15, the delegation will hold its meeting at Taeni Hall (Room S-117) on Edison College’s campus in Fort Myers, which is located at 8099 College Parkway. The meeting will begin at 10 a.m. and will adjourn no later that 6 p.m.
The meeting will conduct local business, including a public hearing and workshop on proposed local bills and community budget issue requests, along with a public hearing on other issues for people who have registered to speak.
Individuals must file local bills and community budget issue requests with the delegation by 5 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 1, to meet the deadline.
“All local bills and community budget issue requests must be accompanied by completed paperwork required by the Florida Legislature, including original signatures of the legislative sponsors, and should be forwarded to Rep. Aubuchon at 3501 Del Prado Boulevard, Suite 305, Cape Coral, FL 33904,” according to a prepared statement.
The deadline to request items on the agenda, but issues not related to local bills, is also on Tuesday, Dec. 1 at 5 p.m.
The city of Cape Coral has a working legislative agenda.
Among the needs at the state level is that officials there recognize the development legacies with which some communities must deal, said Cape Coral Councilmember Bill Deile.
“The big one is to get the state to recognize the uniqueness of pre-platted communities,” he said Tuesday. “It’s been on our legislative agenda for years.”
The “Hometown Democracy” issue is another city concern, Deile said, adding a referendum vote on every development issue is likely to be both problematic and costly.
Requests to speak must be submitted in writing.
