Give Thanks Walk to raise money for Children’s Hospital
The first free Give Thanks Walk in Fort Myers will be held for St. Jude Children’s Hospital to help raise awareness for the children, along with raising money for the research hospital.
The 5K walk will take place on Saturday, Nov. 21, at Miromar Outlets.
Angela Sotolongo, bilingual event marketing representative for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, said they decided to host the first Give Thanks Walk event with no registration fee so the entire community could come out and walk.
“The objective of the walk is to bring the entire community together including companies, colleges, universities, schools, friends, family and neighbors,” Sotolongo said. “Everyone will come together to join the fight against childhood cancer.”
The Cape Coral Construction Industry Association is partnering with St. Jude as a corporate team sponsor.
“The CCCIA is one of our Corporate Teams Champions Sponsors,” Sotolongo said. “Our corporate teams champions are those companies that have registered a team and their employees are committed to coming out and walk and raising funds for St. Jude. The CCCIA along with our other supporting companies have done a great job at raising awareness for St. Jude.”
CCCIA Membership Director Crystal Crothers said everyone is welcome to attend the event.
“Cape Coral Construction Industry Association is extremely excited to partner with St. Jude on this global mission to raise awareness and give hope to the families who visit St. Jude in search for help,” Crothers said. “This association also recognizes the financial need to support the doctors and researchers at St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in finding cures for ill children around the world.”
The 5K walk is an event for the whole family to take part in and rally around the worthy cause, Crothers said.
“The lifesaving work they do would not be possible without public contributions,” Crothers said. “The CCCIA is an organization that cares about this vital cause and is proud to encourage others to give thanks for the healthy kids in their lives and give to those who are not.”
Registration the day of the event will begin at 7 a.m. and the walk will start at 8 a.m.
Sotolongo said participants can visit www.givethankswalk.org and register a team before the day of the event.
“Each person will have their own personalized fund-raising page where they will be able to send out e-mails to all of their friends and family,” she said. “In these e-mails there is information about the hospital and they will be asking their friends and family to pledge them.”
