Health, safety, community; they were all components of the third annual Health and Safety Fair, which was held at the Wellness Center on Saturday.
Organizer Debbie Fasenmyer said the event’s aim was to bring together different community interests under one roof, giving them the chance to network, not only with citizens, but each other.
“I felt like there needed to be something to bring these groups together,” Fasenmyer said. “A lot of people might not know these different groups are out there.”
Though the turnout wasn’t as high as it has been in the past, Fasenmyer said she was still pleased with the turnout.
It was a mix of families, individuals, and people who were working out at the Wellness Center who just happened to wander into the gymnasium.
“Its a little slower than I would have liked but I’m definitely still happy. I just think there’s a lot of events right now,” she said.
The Cape Coral Police and Fire, Hope Hospice, and the American Red Cross were but a few of the organizations that took part in the festivities.
Also, each year the fair is dedicated to a hero in the community. Last year it was for Fort Myers police officer Andrew Widman. This year the event was dedicated to Cape Coral police officer Damien Garcia, who was injured in a motorcycle accident.
Though the event wasn’t able to raise money directly for Garcia, vendors like Iragazzi Pizza decided to dedicate half of their proceeds to helping the injured officer.
Fasenmyer, whose Heart and Soul Massage is celebrating its seventh year of business, said it was important for people and organizations to reach out to each other when ever possible.
“I felt like these groups needed to be brought together,” she said.
