The Cape Coral Municipal Charter Schools Foundation is celebrating its second anniversary by electing former mayor Eric Feichthaler to its board of directors.
Similar to The Foundation for Lee County Public Schools, the charter foundation raises money and supports extracurricular programs for the city’s charter system, which includes Christa McAuliffe Elementary, Oasis Elementary, Oasis Middle and Oasis High.
According to Kevin Colpoys, executive director of the charter foundation, the position was created for Feichthaler.
“We added a new board member position,” he said. “He was interested in helping us, so the board created a new director slot.”
Feichthaler, a local attorney, served on a number of county and state boards for community planning and development. Also, his oldest son is enrolled in the voluntary pre-kindergarten program at Christa McAuliffe Elementary.
“We felt with his name recognition he could help us with fund raising and other things we are doing,” Colpoys said. “We are excited about having him aboard. He’s been a strong supporter from the beginning.”
There have been other changes on the board. Foundation president Scott Bologna resigned, and the position was filled by board member Janet Deile.
Board officers are elected in December.
This weekend the foundation is offering “Gold Cards” to the public at the 12th annual Fall Kids’ Festival at Jaycee Park. The cards, on sale for $20 each and valid for one year, provide discounts from 25 Cape Coral businesses and benefit the charter system.
Two major foundation events are also planned in 2010. The foundation will host its Annual Family Fun Day/Auction on March 27, as well as the Lighthouse Awards Program, which is for exceptional teachers in the charter system, on May 20 at Cape Harbour.
