U.S. Rep. Connie Mack, R-Fort Myers, will host a health care town hall forum Oct. 2 at Harborside Event Center in downtown Fort Myers.
Focusing on the current administration’s efforts to institute health care reform, Mack will present a panel of experts in the field of health care to discuss the topic with the public.
“All of our panelists have an objective expertise on this issue,” said Stephanie DuBois, a spokesperson for Mack’s office. “They will be well suited to answer all questions.”
Along with Mack, the panel will include Jim Nathan, president and chief executive officer of the Lee Memorial Health System; Robert Sanchez, director of public policy at the James Madison Institute; Edward Morton, managing director of Wasmer, Schroeder & Co. Inc. and former chief executive officer of the NCH Healthcare System; and Al Hoffman, president of Hoffman Partners, a former U.S. ambassador to Portugal and the founder of WCI Communities Inc.
DuBois said health care has been one the major subjects broached by Mack constituents during a recent spate of Southwest Florida speaking engagements for the congressman.
During similar health care town hall meetings around the nation, public response has been heated.
DuBois said that most of the e-mails, phone calls and letters to Mack’s offices indicate a “passionate” response among his constituents.
While Mack is open to health care reform, the congressman does not approve of current proposals, according to DuBois.
“Everyone agrees we need it, but Congressman Mack does not support the democratic proposals to Congress,” she said. “The congressman does not support government takeover of health care.”
Those interested in attending the town hall forum are required to register in advance.
Though DuBois did not indicate if the number of seats are limited, she said registration is required to determine space needs and to speed up check-in on the day of the forum.
