Cape department earns awards for excellence

By Staff

The city of Cape Coral Parks and Recreation Department has received two professional excellence awards from the Florida Recreation and Parks Association.
The department was awarded the 2008 Agency Excellence Award for Category II — agencies serving populations between 150,000-199,999 — and the 2008 Print Media Excellence Award.
The association’s “Agency Excellence Award” is given annually to recognize and honor the state’s most outstanding community park, recreation and/or leisure service agencies for excellence in parks and recreation management.
Judging was based on each agency’s performance in a wide variety of areas including parks development, recreational, ADA, aquatic and athletic programming, leisure and cultural arts, fitness and wellness activities, promotion of programs, administration and citizen involvement.
The Agency Excellence Award is the highest honor an agency can receive at the state level.
The “Excellence Award for Print Media” is presented annually to the agency that has contributed significantly to the public’s increased awareness and recognition of public parks, recreation and leisure service programs.
This year’s award is being presented to Cape Coral Parks and Recreation for the special parks insert that appeared in the summer 2009 issue of the city’s quarterly newsletter, “On the Move.”
Both awards will be presented Aug. 27 at the Florida Recreation and Park Association’s Annual Awards Ceremony in Orlando.
