Man charged with child neglect; accused of leaving child unattended
An Ohio man was charged with child neglect after hotel workers found a young child wandering around the facilities unattended Friday night.
Dusty Krogman, 23, was charged with child neglect without great harm, and contributing to the delinquency of a minor after an investigation showed he left the child alone at the hotel in Bonita Springs while he went to a bar on Fort Myers Beach, officials said.
The age of the child has not been released.
The Lee County Sheriff’s Office received a call from the Americinn Hotel, at 28600 Trails Edge Boulevard, at 9:59 p.m. The caller said a child had been wandering around the hotel property for at least a half hour.
Detectives with the Lee County Sheriff’s Office Child Abuse Investigation Unit responded, located the child and were then able to locate the vehicle of the caretaker, identified as Krogman, in the hotel parking lot. Investigators contacted Krogman, who then came back to the hotel about 45 minutes later, officials said. Investigators say they then learned that Krogman left the child alone at the hotel while he went to Fort Myers Beach to have some drinks with friends.
The Florida Department of Children and Families was notified. The child was placed in the temporary custody of a caretaker until family members can respond.
