Foul play not suspected in basketball player death
Cape police do not suspect foul play in the death of a 25-year-old man who collapsed while playing basketball Tuesday evening.
Michael A. Abreu, of 414 SE 13th Street #202, apparently died after suffering cardiac arrest while playing with a group of friends at Cape Christian Fellowship, 2110 Chiquita Blvd., officials said today.
According to witnesses, Abreu went to retrieve the basketball on the court and fell facedown on a cement step. His friends called 9-1-1, and emergency workers responded to the scene in answer to the 8:35 p.m. call.
There were no signs of trauma to the body or any signs of foul play. Heat exhaustion or heat stroke may have contributed to the apparent cardiac arrest, officials said.
