The Lee County Elections Office is forming a Special Needs Voters’ Panel.
Representatives from the state, Lee and Collier Supervisor of Elections Offices, Lee County Sheriff’s Department, Lee and Collier County’s VIP Centers, and LARC will meet to address the specific needs of individuals with disabilities in our community. The panel’s first meeting is scheduled for Monday, June 15, from 10 a.m. to approximately noon at the Elections Center Branch Office; 13180 S. Cleveland Ave., in Fort Myers.
Lee County Supervisor of Elections, Sharon L. Harrington, and her staff will present a brief overview of the procedures that are currently in use to assist voters with special needs. It will include poll worker training, absentee voters, early voting and polling places. The Lee County Elections Office is planning to reevaluate all their procedures.
“Partnering with these organizations to create this panel will help ensure us to achieve our goal to provide every individual equal opportunity to cast their vote,” said Harrington in a prepared statement.
The Lee County Elections Office’s intent is to provide quality election services to include transparent yet secure elections with timely and accurate results. The office strives to maintain accurate voter registration statistics and make sure voters are informed through its voter outreach initiatives and to remain apprised of and ensure compliance to Florida election laws, officials said.
