Stilwell terminated ‘without cause’
The Lee County Commission has terminated long-time County Manager Don Stilwell.
The board voted 3-2 to terminate Stilwell without cause. Commissioners Bob Janes and Brian Bigelow dissented.
Stilwell now has one week to decide whether to accept or reject the offer, which includes three months severance pay and full benefits.
“I cannot defend that conduct in the court of public opinion,” said Commissioner Ray Judah. “There are standards that must be upheld and there’s no question, the relationship must be terminated with County Manager Stilwell.”
Stilwell, who has worked for the county for nearly 16 years, was accused of sending and receiving inappropriate e-mails on his county computer.
His annual salary is $248,000 per year.
