Cape man dies following motorcycle/car collision

By Staff

A Cape Coral man has died from injuries suffered when he was ejected from his motorcycle after it was struck from behind while slowing for a traffic light on Del Prado Boulevard Friday night.
Ronald L. Johnson, 53, of 1307 S.E. 13th Terrace, was taken to Lee Memorial Hospital after the 10:27 p.m. collision near Southeast 26th Street. He died at the hospital, officials said.
According to police, Johnson was riding a 2005 Harley Davidson motorcycle northbound in the center lane of Del Prado when he slowed for a traffic signal, which had turned from green to yellow. The driver behind him,
Ryan S. Schaufert, 23, was unable to avoid the motorcycle and drove the front end of his 2004 Toyota Matrix onto the rear wheel of the bike.
The impact ejected Johnson from the motorcycle, and he came to rest in the roadway.
Schaufert, 23, of 1718 S.E. 2nd Street, was not injured in the crash.
No other information is available. The investigation is continuing, officials said.
Johnson’s death is the second fatality reported in Cape Coral this year. Both individuals were riding motorcycles.
